Privacy Policy
The short version: your files never leave your device. Every PDFPax tool processes your documents locally in your browser, so we never see, store or have access to them. This policy explains the few things that do happen when you use the site.
Your files stay on your device
When you merge, split, compress or convert a file on PDFPax, the processing code runs inside your browser tab. No file is uploaded to our servers, and no copy is created anywhere else. When you close the tab, the working data is gone. We have no technical way to recover a file you processed here — which is exactly how it should be.
Optional accounts (Google sign-in)
Using the tools requires no signup. If you choose to sign in with your Google account, we receive your name, email address and profile photo from Google and store them in our Firebase database (operated by Google) so we can recognise you on return visits. We use this only to keep you signed in — we don't sell it, share it, or add you to any list. You can sign out at any time from the account menu, and you can ask us to delete your account data by emailing hello@pdfpax.com.
Apart from signing in, the only time we receive personal information is if you email us at hello@pdfpax.com. In that case we only use your message and address to reply, and we don't add you to any list or share your details.
Third-party services
A few external services are involved in delivering the site:
- Content delivery networks. Some JavaScript libraries are loaded from public CDNs such as unpkg and cdnjs. When your browser fetches these, the CDN provider receives standard technical data like your IP address and browser type, governed by their own privacy policies.
- Firebase (Google). If you sign in, authentication and your account record are handled by Google Firebase. When your browser talks to Firebase, Google receives standard technical data such as your IP address, governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages and tools people visit — for example, page views and approximate location (city/country level). Google Analytics sets its own cookies (such as
_ga) and processes technical data like your IP address under Google's privacy policy. Analytics only runs if you accept cookies in the banner; if you decline, no analytics data is collected. You can also opt out anytime with Google's opt-out add-on. - Advertising. We may display ads through Google AdSense in the future to help cover hosting costs. Ad providers can use cookies to show relevant ads. You can manage or opt out of personalized advertising through Google's ad settings.
Cookies and local storage
PDFPax shows a cookie banner on your first visit. If you accept, Google Analytics may set cookies (such as _ga) to count visits and understand tool usage — no advertising cookies, and nothing is sold. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. Your browser may also store temporary working data while a tool runs, but this stays on your device and is discarded when you close the tab. Third-party providers mentioned above may set their own cookies as described in their policies.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Because we collect so little, meaningful changes are unlikely — but the date will always tell you when this text last changed.
