How to Insert Pages into a PDF in 3 Steps

      1. Drop your main PDF into the first box above (or click to browse).
      2. Choose what to insert — pages from a second PDF, or blank pages — and pick the position: at the start, at the end, or after a specific page.
      3. Click Insert Pages and download the result.

Tip: page numbering starts at 1 — "after page 3" inserts your new pages between pages 3 and 4.

Insert Blank Pages vs Pages from Another PDF

The tool offers two insertion modes. From another PDF copies every page of a second file into your main document — ideal for adding a missing appendix, a signed cover sheet, or pages that arrived separately. Blank pages are sized to match your main document's first page and work well as note-taking space, placeholder sheets, or separators between chapters. You can only insert from one source PDF at a time; if you're joining several whole files, Merge PDF first, then insert any extra pages. Blank pages, on the other hand, can be added in any quantity up to 500 at once — useful when you're building a workbook with a notes page after every chapter.

Where Can You Insert Pages? Start, Middle or End

Three positions are supported. At the start puts new pages before page 1 — useful for cover sheets. At the end appends them after the last page. After page lets you type any page number to slot new pages into the middle of the document, for example right after the table of contents. Remember that numbering starts at 1, so double-check the page number before inserting into a long document. After inserting, Reorder PDF Pages can fine-tune the sequence, and Add Page Numbers keeps the final order easy to follow.

Add Pages to a PDF Without Adobe Acrobat

Acrobat's page insertion needs a paid subscription and uploads your file to Adobe's servers. This tool does the same job free in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library: pages are copied, never re-rendered, so quality stays identical, and your originals are never modified — you always download a brand-new file. Password-protected PDFs can't be opened by browser tools, so unlock the file first if it has a password. Need a signed page to insert? Create it with Sign PDF first. And if the pages you want to add currently live as photos on your phone, convert them with JPG to PDF before inserting — the resulting file slots straight into the position you choose.

      Frequently asked questions

Can I insert pages in the middle of a PDF?

Yes. Choose After page and type the page number — numbering starts at 1, so "after page 3" places the new pages between pages 3 and 4. You can also insert at the very start or the very end.

Can I insert blank pages instead of another PDF?

Yes. Tick Blank pages, choose how many you need, and they are sized to match your main document's first page. Handy for adding note-taking space or placeholder sheets.

Does inserting pages change their quality?

No. The pages are copied directly, not re-rendered, so text, images, links and formatting stay exactly as they were in the source files.

      Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole job runs in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library. Your PDFs never leave your device, and your originals are never modified — you download a brand-new file.

Is it free to add pages to a PDF? Are there limits?

Yes — completely free with no file limits or watermarks. Everything runs in your browser, so there is nothing to meter or gate behind an account.

Can I insert a JPG or PNG image as a new PDF page?

The inserter accepts PDF files only. To add an image, first convert it with our free JPG to PDF tool, then insert the resulting PDF — the whole round trip takes under a minute.

Will inserting pages make my PDF file bigger?

Slightly — the file grows by roughly the size of the pages you add. Nothing is re-compressed, so the quality of both the original and inserted pages stays identical.

Can I insert pages from several different PDFs at once?

You can insert from one source PDF at a time — just repeat the step for each additional file. If you are combining whole documents, use our free Merge PDF tool first, then insert any extra pages.

Does it work on my phone or tablet?

Yes. The tool works in any modern mobile browser on iPhone, iPad and Android — no app to install.
